Google Compare announced plans to terminate its one-year-old online insurance comparison shopping website in both the U.S. and UK as of March 23, 2016. After hearing the news, many were left wondering what the underlying reasons for the search engine powerhouse’s aborted endeavor were.
“Google focused in on one part of the equation—price,” says Tyler Bartosh, licensed solution specialist, Top O’ Michigan Insurance Agency. “This is what all agents and brokers should be trying to avoid. Accessibility and ease of doing business is key—in addition to price, coverage, service and relationship.”

Daniel Schreiber, Lemonade CEO, insists that most Americans view insurance as “a necessary evil rather than a social good, and that’s something we’d like to change.” He adds, “We’re challenging the way insurance companies work, with a peer-to-peer business model fueled by self-service technology.”
